Obi-Wan Kenobi: landed on Disney + the new series of the Star Wars universe

The first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi, the new series of the Star Wars galaxy, debuted on Disney + on May 27

The wait is over. After years of speculation and waiting, Obi-Wan Kenobi debuted on Disney+ last Friday with the former two episodes (of which you can find here our review). The series is set ten years after the events of Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. Let’s find out what to expect from this series, starting with the official trailer!

What do we know | Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi is therefore set between the prequel trilogy (The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith) and the original trilogy (A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi). The protagonist is marked by the failures of his past: his apprentice, Anakin Skywalkermoved on to Dark side of the Force and became Darth Vader, Lord of the Sith. Obi-Wan is thus isolated on the desert planet of Tatooine, to watch over Luke Skywalker, son of Anakin and entrusted to his uncle Owen Lars. The old teacher therefore lives in the shadowshiding from the imperial inquisitors intent on finding and killing all the remaining Jedi in the galaxy.

He cast the Obi-Wan Kenobi comprises Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Moses Ingram, Rupert Friend, Sung Kang, Joel Edgerton, Indira Varma, Kumail Nanjiani, Bennie Safdie and Jimmy Smits. The direction is entrusted to Deborah Chowwho previously directed a few episodes of The Mandalorian, the first live-action Star Wars series on Disney +. The series is produced by Lucasfilm and distributed exclusively by Disney +, now home to all the products of the franchise.

A new challenge for the franchise

Obi-Wan Kenobi looks like a very different series from The Mandalorian o The Book of Boba Fett, the first two Star Wars live-action serial experiments on Disney +. If in these two the action dominated and the protagonists were almost completely unknown to the fans, here the situation is very different. Obi-Wan is one of the cornerstones of the franchise since his debut in 1977, when he was played by Alec Guinness. The role was then explored again in the prequel trilogy, in the animated series, in video games and in all the collateral works, canonical and otherwise. Still, Obi-Wan Kenobi promises to tell a new story and bridge the gap between the prequels and the original trilogycontinuing to expand the Star Wars galaxy.
