Earlier this year Google had stated that he would have removed his “Google Wifi” app from the stores, which allows you to manage your company’s mesh routers. A few days ago the application it is no longer available on the Google Play Store or on the Apple App Store and those who already have it installed will not be able to control Google devices anyway.

Google says goodbye to its Wifi app, settings are now in the Home app

The Google Wifi app was removed on August 4 from the iOS App Store, while the next day from the Play Store for Android smartphones, where it had over 5 million installations since its launch in 2015. New users will not be able to download the application; while those who installed it in the past will have few features at their disposal, since the app has been discontinued.

In fact, if you own the app because you installed it in the past, you will not be able to use it as before. As Google states, users will no longer be able to set up a network, add an additional Wi-Fi point, or change network settings. They can only be view connection statistics and other information, but it is not known yet for how long.

In the meantime, all the features of the Google Wifi app have been transferred to the “Wi-Fi” page in Google Home for a few months. Here you can change the various settings, as well as view the statistics and information of the network with an updated graphics compared to that of the old app.

Google had originally planned to remove the dedicated Wifi app in June, but for some reason this has been postponed until the beginning of August. The intent of the company is to have a single app to manage all the devices in its smart home ecosystem. This was also amply demonstrated by the ability to now control Nest doorbells and cameras directly from the Home app.
