Headphones have been a depopulated market among the various manufacturers in recent years, also thanks to the arrival on the scene of TWS (True-Wireless) today within everyone’s reach. However, the category relating to studio headphones remains more niche, designed to give the best in combination with other instruments and systems. OneOdio therefore stands at a straight leg in the sector by presenting the brand new ones Monitor 80, going to challenge the “big” without however replicating the latter in the price. Let’s find out together!

Packaging and build quality | OneOdio Monitor 80 Review

The packaging is very rich, which is quite rare nowadays, in fact we find inside the headphones, the protective case with pocket for the two cables supplied (3.5mm to 6.35mm and 3.5mm to 3.5mm), the stand and the instruction manual. Once picked up, these Monitor 80 will convey a decidedly premium and refined feeling, this is also possible thanks to the silver finishes along both pavilions. To mention then theirs ability to fold back for greater ergonomics and ease of transport.

Aesthetically, therefore, they fully convince, elegance and robustness at the highest levels, and thanks to the included stand it is possible to show them off in all their splendor. Not least the fabric pads, which completely cover our ear, even if they do not allow excellent acoustic insulation. The only drawback that can be found is that relating to the construction, in fact they are often perceived various crunches once worn, especially in case of sudden movements.

  • Hardware and audio quality | OneOdio Monitor 80 Review

So here we are at the most interesting aspect when it comes to headphones, especially if for studio. Yes, because what differentiates these Monitor 80 from the normal other Bluetooth headphones and not, is theabsence of a microphone or any wireless connection. These OneOdio Monitor 80 should only be used with wired connections to dedicated equipment. In fact, the company itself recommends its use coupled to an amplifier for the highest possible quality. And we can only find ourselves more in agreement, since due to the high impedance they are equipped with (ben 250 Ohm) even just believing you can use them with a laptop, or even a smartphone, is unthinkable. In fact, our tests on smartphones and PCs confirm what has just been said, the headphones will have an extremely low maximum volume (we even tried with a External DAC Audioquest Dragonfly and the situation has improved a little) not allowing you to appreciate all the nuances of the songs.

The music changes (literally!) Once connected to an integrated amplifier and a CD player (in our case a Denon PMA-600NE and another Denon DCD-520AE). It is only with this latter setup that the headphones will begin to give their best, bringing crystal clear audio, without distortion and at a very high volume. If you respect what has just been said we can assure you that these new OneOdio Monitor 80 will satisfy you in terms of sound quality. The sound is absolutely enveloping, with balanced frequencies and involvement at the top, ultimately guaranteeing atop notch musical experience.

    Price and conclusions

What makes these Monitor 80s one of the best buys though is the selling price, absolutely competitive. In fact, we are talking about only € 92.95 list on the official website. This is of course a niche product, but if you are part of that small circle of people with a decent audio system then you will be able to make the most of these new OneOdio Monitor 80. Small burrs aside, they are definitely worth the price of the ticket: recommended !
