Opel Astra Sports Tourer coming also plug-in hybrid

Opel continues the renewal of its range with the station wagon version of its Astra. which is once again called the Astra Sports Tourer. The newcomer can be considered technically related to the Peugeot 308 SW as it shares the same engines, including plug-in hybrids. You immediately notice that the new Astra Sport Tourer is shorter than the previous generation, but still offers plenty of space.

At 4.64 meters, the Opel Astra Sports Tourer is 27 centimeters longer than the five-door sedan, but still 6 centimeters shorter than the generation it replaces. Thanks to its relatively small width and height – 1.80 and 1.40 meters respectively, it displays a dynamic and well-balanced profile with side windows accented in chrome or black depending on the finish. Of course, the roof can be finished in a contrasting color, just like on the five-door.

In terms of cargo volume, the Astra Sports Tourer offers up to 1,636 liters with the rear seats folded down. With all the seats in their normal position, the station wagon makes available too 608 liters of storage space. For the plug-in hybrid versions, this drops to 1,574 and 548 liters respectively, due to the arrangement of the batteries.

Both diesel and petrol versions are optionally available with Intelli-Space, which offers a movable cargo floor that can be tilted up to a 45 degree angle. Also included is a retractable luggage cover that can be stowed under the floor. The Intelli-Space also includes stowage areas optimized for first aid and the tire repair kit, now discreetly hidden and accessible from both the trunk and the rear seat. So it is not necessary, just in case, to remove all the suitcases from the trunk to access it.

Among the numerous systems present we note the latest evolution of active lighthouses Intelli-Lux LED Pixel, the same ones mounted on Opel Opel Insignia and Opel Grandland. The state-of-the-art assistance systems available as an option range from the Head Up Display to the Intelli-Drive 2.0 semi-automatic assistance system, which detects whether the driver always has his hands on the wheel and therefore attentive to driving.

Inside the car, the new generation of multimedia infotainment and connectivity systems stands out, which can now be connected wirelessly to Apple CarPlay e Android Auto through compatible smartphones. It should be emphasized that the system is already available in the entry version.

As for the available engines, Opel will supply the Astra Sports Tourer with a 110 bhp 1.2, a three-cylinder that also has a 150 bhp version. In addition, there will also be a 130 hp 1.5 CDTI diesel engine and, of course, a plug-in hybrid. The plug-in hybrid Astra Sports Tourer is therefore based on a 1.6 petrol engine with 150 hp which works together with a 110 hp electric motor. The power of the system is 180 hp and offers a maximum torque of 360 Nm. The battery pack measures 12.4 kWh and provides the Astra Sports Tourer with “electric only” range about 60 kilometers. A six-speed manual transmission is available standard on the petrol and diesel models, while the eight-speed automatic transmission is offered at an additional cost.

The additional cost of the Sports Tourer over the five-door Astra is not yet known. Deliveries will begin in late spring or early summer of 2022, provided the shortage of chips and other parts doesn’t disrupt the original plans.
