Oppo Find X5 Pro: how does the camera behave at night?

Oppo Find X5 Pro has been on the market for a few months now. We have used, tested, mistreated and reviewed it but we have never focused on one of the most interesting features of this smartphone: the photographic sector.
Yes, because Oppo Find X5 Pro was born to be a real cameraphoneone of those who always aim to keep you company, even at night. We therefore decided to put it to the test right after sunset, challenging the thousand pitfalls of Milan.

I’m scared

Oppo Find X5 Pro: the photographic test at night

Before telling you how the Oppo Find X5 Pro behaved in the field, let’s make a brief summary of its characteristics.
The top of the range of the Chinese giant mounts 3 rear cameras;

  • the 50 megapixel main, with Sony IMX766 sensor, 5-axis stabilization and F / 1.7 aperture;
  • the ultra-wide angle, always a Sony IMX766 from 50 megapixel and aperture F / 2.2;
  • the 13 megapixel telephoto lens with F / 2.4 aperture.

All sensors are meant to capture 1 billion colors and benefit from the presence of MariSilicon X, a 6-nanometer processor designed to take care of the camera and to power artificial intelligence that optimizes shots and videos, including those captured at night. MariSilicon X also allows the capture of fotografie in HDR a 20 bitwith increased dynamic range and a contrast of 1,000,000: 1.
All of these items should allow us to take home above average results, especially at night. But is it really so?

The shots we took home are undoubtedly superior to those guaranteed by other smartphones.
With the main sensor you get very bright photos and above all without disturbance, therefore without that grain that appears in the dark parts when the smartphone struggles to manage night shots.
Oppo Find X5 Pro also manages to illuminate the dark areas well and not burn the already lit areas instead.
In addition, the main sensor gives us excellent dynamic range, with good color reproduction even in the dark.

Also promoted ultra-wide angle and zoom. We lose a little bit in terms of detail but overall the photos are really good, with the colors that are kept well and do not flatten.

Finally, let’s not forget the XPan mode, fruit of collaboration between Oppo and Hasselblad. The engineers from the two companies worked together to ensure a natural approach to color reproduction, to customize the camera interface a little and to add XPan, which takes pictures in a slightly peculiar format – 21: 9. The shots are thus very cinematic, without however losing all the advantages offered by the main sensor.

XPan mode

A little note: all the photos you see in our gallery were taken freehand. But you can take home even better results with a tripod.

Finally, we come to the video because MariSilicon X also comes into play here, in addition to the 5-axis optical stabilization system. The result is really excellent, both in terms of color rendering and in terms of details. On the other hand, you can take home good quality movies even using the 2x zoom.

On balance then Oppo Find X5 Pro does not fear the night. You take yourself home excellent shots and videos even in the dark, a little with all sensors and all modes.
If you are looking for a camera phone also suitable for night photography, he is definitely for you.
