Overwatch: crossplay confirmed, that’s when it will arrive

The Overwatch developers talked about the crossplay feature and when it will be implemented in the aforementioned game

As part of the titles multiplatform e multiplayer with more following it would be really impossible not to mention Overwatch of Blizzard and now it seems that the “game barriers” between the community of this title are destined to be demolished. In a new video Developer Update, the game director Aaron Keller reported that the functionality crossplay will arrive shortly and will “unite” all the platforms (PlayStation, Xbox, PC and Nintendo Switch) on which Overwatch is playable (with a few exceptions which we will talk about later). To celebrate, the entire gaming community will receive a golden bounty when the feature goes live. Let’s see all the details about it in the next lines of this article.

Overwatch: yes to crossplay but with some limitations

In an extensive FAQ, Blizzard clarified a few points about the crossplay that will come up Overwatch. Progress will not be transferred between systems, nor will your stats and ranks reset. Crossplay will be enabled by default, console players can disable the option or via the Xbox system settings (although queue times may increase accordingly). Interestingly, the players PC they will not be able to disable crossplay.

Don’t worry too much though: the feature will only be enabled for game modes non competitive, at least from the beginning. When the beta is released, the competitive mode will have two separate pools for console and PC players and will not be “mixed”. Console players can be grouped with PC players, but will be placed in the PC-related matchmaking pool (and the controller aim assist option is disabled). And even if you use a controller on PC, you will always remain in the PC matchmaking pool.

The launch of the crossplay is scheduled for season 28 of the competitive mode. Crossplay for the competition will be available on July 1st in season 29 with players on different consoles able to group together. The development team will monitor the feedback when the feature is active, so everything remains a bit of an “open yard” and the response of the community will be fundamental, especially in the first phase.
