PlayStation 5: the first compatible SSD from Seagate is coming

With Seagate Sony says yes to SSDs: after an eternal wait, the first to be compatible with PlayStation 5 is finally coming

Apparently, finally from Seagate is coming the first SSD to be compatible with PlayStation 5. Sony’s console has always been a bit picky with storage media, but finally the doors are opening and that’s not a saying. We allude to door m.2 of PS5, notorious among fans for remaining inaccessible until now. Being the flagship console of the “Big S” best known for its insane data reading speeds, it is more than normal that gamers have wanted to avoid resorting to the “usual” hard drives. Apparently there is finally one who answers their prayers.

Finally a PlayStation 5 compatible SSD, thanks to Seagate

The minimum requirements see the PlayStation 5 capable of reading data at the speed of 5500 megabytes per second, and now Seagate has taken the gauntlet with the first compatible SSD. The data reading speed, for the new memory medium, is in fact around 6900 megabyte, which in the writing phase also rises to an altitude 7300. With such mind-boggling numbers, it is more than natural that the foreign press jumped to conclusions: specifically, Seagate’s Jeff Park openly confirmed that the SSD was born from the synergy with Sony itself, in order to also include a fan. despite the little space left in the console.

The timing of the release of this new hard drive may not be more spot on than that. The wait for the unlocking of the m.2 port, for Sony fans, has been eternal, but the console manufacturer has hinted that it wants to end the tyranny of 667 gigabytes (internal space of PS5, made insufficient by the large size of the next-gen titles) before the end of August. It so happens that it is just in the month around the corner that Seagate intends to release the SSD, starting from a minimum price of 199 Australian dollars for a 500GB base model and reaching the 1429 required for the fanless 4TB model.
