“Fire, walk with me”: Sony’s latest acquisition adds independent development team Firewalk Studios to the PlayStation family

After the latest (sadly lacking news on Hollow Knight: Silksong) announcements of the Indie World, Sony decided it didn’t want to be outdone in terms of independent development teams and decided to put Firewalk Studios at, ahem, employed by PlayStation. Practically exactly two years after the last announcement about a partnership with the developers for a new multiplayer shooter Triple A for PS5 and PC, now another ace is added to the hand of the cobalt titan. The development team, hoping that it is put to good use, boasts talents with a curriculum including Bungie, Respawn Entertainment, Raven Software and more.

Firewalk will be the 20th studio under the increasingly colorful umbrella of PlayStation Studios, and Sony did not fail to boast its prestige in the last press conference. Like Bungie and Haven, the development team “will define a new generation of live service experiences for PlayStation users”. Also Herman Hulst of PlayStation Studios shared his enthusiasm. “We’ve had the privilege of working with ProbablyMonsters for several years, and our teams share the same ambition to create meaningful experiences for players. Firewalk’s innovative approach to interconnected storytelling and their dedication to high-quality gameplay continues to exceed our expectations.” Declarations do not go one way, and for this reason also Tony Hsu of Firewalk stated that “Sony has supported our vision from the beginning” and predicts that “this exciting next step will make it happen.” As much as the numbers make news, Sony has not disclosed the acquisition figures.
