Pokémon Sleep is about to be released, halfway between a game and an app

First announced by Nintendo 4 years ago, in 2019, Pokémon Sleep is a hybrid experiment and is described as a sleep tracking app that offers “a gaming experience unlike any other”. After the announcement, 4 years of total silence followed, to the point that many thought that the project had been cancelled, at least until today.

During today’s livestream (February 27), on the occasion of Pokémon DayNintendo has made it known that not only is the project still in development, but that it will be out this summer.

What can we expect from Pokémon Sleep

The study from the big N also revealed some important details about the app:

“The idea behind Pokémon Sleep is to make you look forward to waking up in the morning,” he said. Takato Utsunomiya, chief operating officer of the Pokémon Company. Utsunomiya further explained that “Sleep is easy to play: all you have to do is get a good night’s sleep”.

Set on a small island inhabited by a singular Snorlax, players will be able to attract other Pokémon by tracking their sleep. The mobile app will track players’ sleep cycles and categorize them into one of three options. Each of these will be associated with a specific Pokémon. In short the saying goes “he who sleeps catches no fish”, but in this case it would be better to say that “he who sleeps well catches Pokémon”.

The application is due out on July 14, 2023 and also includes the presence of a virtual Pikachu that sings lullabies to help players fall asleep. Instead of counting sheep, we’ll be counting Wooloo.
