Polestar opens its Design Studio in Gothenburg

Polestar has opened its new Design Studio in Gothenburg, Sweden. The chosen location is a dense forest adjacent to the headquarters, while the dedicated structure hosts up to 120 members of the design team, led by Maximilian Missoni, in an environment that combines modern architecture and Scandinavian aesthetics, with references to the brand’s minimalism .

The new Polestar Design Studio

The building, a historic former Volvo factory completed in 1984 by Italian Romaldo Giurgola and local architect Owe Svärd, has been completely renovated while respecting its architectural character. Furthermore, in this new location, the Polestar Design team will continue to develop the new stylistic language of the brand, anticipated by the Polestar Precept and Polestar 3.

The structure, therefore, sees the materials of the 80s intertwined with a minimalist and modern Scandinavian design and includes a specialized exhibition area, a station for working with clay, a laboratory of materials and colors, an auditorium and spaces for studies digital, executive offices, VR and meeting rooms.

“Since 1982 – said Maximilian Missoni, Head of Design of Polestar – care, attention to detail and quality of materials have been placed at the center of the design and for me it was important to respect the original intentions when we integrated the our studio in the building. We have deliberately showcased the original structure and details, respecting the context which gives the building its unique character.

But while we wanted to keep with tradition, we also wanted this to be a state-of-the-art venue for our growing design team. Thus, in addition to the splendid view to the west over the Gothenburg archipelago, the studio has state-of-the-art equipment to facilitate our work and produce better results in the most efficient way.“

Polestar 3

Polestar 3 is more than an SUV, but a real masterpiece where every detail is not left to chance.

The overall design is introduced by the SmartZone and the front aerodynamic wing and thanks to the care taken by the engineering team in making it an electric SUV, it conveys a sense of intelligence difficult to find on any other car.

“In today’s era of advanced product design – continues Maximilian Missoni- it is quite easy to show emotions such as aggressiveness or sportiness in a car. But trying to convey intelligence in design is not that easy. We have spent a lot of time on this aspect, to express the cutting-edge technology and refinement of Polestar 3. Polestar 3 design is an idea that boils down to the essence of the car. It is summed up in the essence of an SUV, but at the same time clearly shows the step towards a new era“.

Interior space has been maximized thanks to the long bodywork and wheelbase, and colors and materials have been carefully selected and combined to express Polestar’s Scandinavian and minimalist spirit.

Polestar 3 will be manufactured in mid-2023 and first deliveries to launch markets are expected by Q4 2023.
