Riot Games: Mid-Season Invitational confirmed for May

Riot Games has announced that the Mid-Season Invitational will be held May 10-29 in Busan, South Korea. The best teams from 11 regional leagues will compete for the title of MSI Champion. For the first time since Worlds 2019, the teams will compete live on the stage of the Bexco Exhibition Hall in front of an international audience. Information on tickets to attend the event will be available soon.

“South Korea has been one of the forerunners in the export industry for decades,” said Naz Aletaha, Global Head of LoL Esports. “We are thrilled to honor this country’s heritage in esports, to celebrate the passion of Korean fans and to bring all the talent of MSI pro teams to Korea for the first time. Busan was an incredible setting for the 2014 and 2018 Worlds, and we can’t wait to go back to see the challenge between the best League of Legends teams in the world. “

The best teams from 11 regions will compete in the Group Stage, Rumble Stage and Knockout Stage. The LCL (CIS) will not send a team to the MSI due to the cancellation of the LCL Spring Split.

  • May 10-15: Teams will be drawn into two groups of four and one group of three to play a best-of-one double round robin within their respective group during the group stage.
  • May 18-22: The two best teams of each Group will move to rumble stage where the six remaining teams will compete for a best-of-one double round robin.
  • May 27-29: Finally, the top four teams will advance to knockout stage, where they will compete in single elimination rounds to the best of five. At the end of the battle, the two remaining teams will clash in the Final to elect the best League of Legends team of the first half of the competitive season. The winner will win the trophy and the title of MSI 2022 Champion.

Busan is the second most populous city in Korea and is considered the home of esports – Gwangalli Beach is a 1.4 km long beach in Busan where they took place le finali 2004-2010 di StarCraft Brood War ProLeague. Additionally, South Korea’s largest annual gaming convention, G-Star, has also found a home in Busan.

The coastal city is also known as the City of Festivals and Movies, highlighting its importance in culture, music and art. Riot Games has already organized other global events in South Korea, including Wolrds 2014 and Worlds 2018.
