The disruption of Netflix services in Russia is a violation of consumer rights, according to a Moscow law firm.
About a month into the Netflix boycott in Russia, a class action action against the American giant has started in the country. To collect the complaints of subscribers is the law firm Chernyshov, Lukoyanov & Partners in Moscow, which is now asking compensation amounting to 60 million rubles (about 685,000 euros).
“The reason for the lawsuit is the violation of the rights of Russian users, due to Netflix’s unilateral refusal to provide its services in Russia,” writes the Russian Information Agency, which launched the news. We recall that last December Roskomnadzor (the media regulator in Russia) had agreed with the American company to launch dozens of state channels on the platform. Following the invasion of Ukraine, however, the company first interrupted this agreement, and then suspended the service throughout the country.
