Russia launches RuStore, the app store that replaces Google and Apple

Russia “solves” the problem of the impossibility of using the Google and Apple stores with the launch of its app store, RuStore. The marketplace was created by VK, a company behind the main Russian social network, which is often referred to as the Facebook of Russia. VK is also part of Gazprom Media, a division of the group which also includes Gazprom, the Russian giant in the energy sector. Here are the details of the project:

Russia launches its store: RuStore

RuStore is a new step towards what it is, to all intents and purposes a digital autarchy on which Russia has been working for some time. The inability to use Google and Apple services accelerated the project. For Russian users and developers there is now the possibility to take advantage of a complete marketplace. In particular, developers will be able to launch applications and accept payments (which is currently impossible with the Google and Apple stores. The new RuStore can be used on android devices. For iPhones, however, it will be necessary to wait for a (highly unlikely in the short term) return of Apple’s services.

There is also public support

Unsurprisingly, RuStore was also created thanks to the support of the Russian government. In particular, the Ministry of digital development, communication and mass media is behind the project. As highlighted by Reuters, the technology company Yandex, Sberbank and the company specializing in cybersecurity Kaspersky Lab also contributed to the project.
