Despite Samsung announced his 200 MP ISOCELL HP1 camera sensor, which is the first in the industry, the company reported will not use it on the Galaxy S22 Ultra. In fact, new information claims that the Korean giant will stick to a lower resolution camera, although we don’t know why.
Just like the Galaxy S21 Ultra, the Galaxy S22 Ultra will use a 108MP main camera, according to The Elec. However, Samsung has yet to announce any new 108 MP sensors, so it’s not confirmed whether the company will use the existing one or announce a new one in the coming months. Considering that Samsung is expected to start mass production of the Galaxy S22 series in November, the announcement of a new sensor should be upon us, or we will have to assume that it will use the same sensor found on the Galaxy S21 Ultra.
Aside from the 108MP main sensor, the Galaxy S22 Ultra will retain the S-Pen functionality and, this time, perhaps Samsung will introduce some improvements, so users who love the Galaxy Note series will not feel its absence. Just as previously reported, Samsung shouldn’t bring a 3D ToF camera to the most premium member of the Galaxy S22 family, but should include a 12MP ultrawide drive with OIS support.
It is also rumored that Samsung will use one 40 MP front camera for the Galaxy S22 Ultra without using under-display technology. Looking at the image quality of the cameras under the display, Samsung can’t risk using it on any Galaxy S22 model, as these flagships could receive heavy criticism for not being able to compete with the iPhone 13 lineup.
Previously, we came across a rumor that the Galaxy S22 Ultra would receive the “Olympus” branding along with a 200MP camera, as these terms would likely grab the attention of the media and consumers. For the moment we are not sure about the brand, but we will communicate any future information about it.
