Snapchat adds “challenges” with cash prizes to compete with TikTok

Snapchat recently announced the arrival of Spotlight Challenges, a new way for creators to monetize through their content. In an effort to compete with TikTok, Snapchat will now offer cash prizes to encourage “Snapchatters” to create content on the social network. Let’s find out all the details together.

The news was shared by the company just a few hours ago on its official blog. According to Snapchat, the creators will be able to Earn money with Spotlight Challenges “creating the best Spotlight Snaps using specific lenses, sounds or #Topics”.

Cash prizes fluctuate from $ 250 a $ 25.000, although the company disclosed that the biggest and most important prizes will be offered for specific challenges. Regarding this, the Snapchat team revealed:

Snapchatters can win a portion of the total prize available for each Spotlight Challenge, which typically ranges from $ 1k to $ 25k, although we may occasionally make a larger sum available for a particular challenge. The minimum prize a Snapchatter can win in a Spotlight Challenge is $ 250 USD!

Users can find the challenges available in the Snapchat app trends page. For each challenge, the social network will choose the 50 most relevant proposals and will judge them on the basis of their “creativity and originality”. Snapchat revealed it will choose an average of 3/5 winners for each challenge.

Spotlight Challenges will be available starting in November exclusively for US users of over 16 years of age. However, the company has revealed that it intends to bring the feature to more countries in the coming months. However, further details are unknown at the moment.
