Sony: new ECM microphones for video

If you are an amateur videomaker, but also a professional, the new Sony ECM microphones are an excellent solution. We have the ECM-W2BT wireless model and the ECM-LV1 compact stereo lavalier microphone

Sony announces the launch of two new microphones: the ECM-W2BT wireless model, compatible with the Multi Interface Shoe, and the ECM-compact stereo lavalier microphoneLV1, both suitable for use with the new mirrorless and compact cameras. The ECM-W2BT wireless microphone guarantees high quality audio recordings, with minimal noise levels and connection stability, especially when used in conjunction with the ECM-LV1 stereo lavalier microphone and one of Sony’s digitally compatible cameras. This combination is the perfect solution for the needs of vloggers, YouTubers and video content creators, who need clarity and audio reliability in the most disparate contexts, from street shots to product or culinary reviews to travel vlogs.

The ECM-W2BT wireless microphone allows you to perform low noise digital audio recordings by connecting the receiver to a compatible camera equipped with a Multi Interface Shoe compatible with the digital audio interface. The digital audio signal coming in from the receiver can be recorded directly into the camera body, without the need for an external audio cable. In addition, the ECM-W2BT microphone was completely redesigned in the name of high sound quality: The advanced omnidirectional capsule ensures clarity of sounds coming from any direction. A further advantage is the flexibility of audio recordings, thanks to the greater stability of the wireless connection between microphone and receiver, even in the presence of obstacles or intense wireless activity, for example in crowded environments. In contexts with good visibility, the communication is possible up to 200 meters, to the advantage of the flexibility of audio recording. Also, the recently adopted codec Qualcomm aptX Low Latency stands for both high quality and low latency audio recordings.

The ECM-W2BT wireless microphone is also synonymous with maximum creative freedom, thanks to the sound acquisition functions. The three modes of sound acquisition, that is MIC, MIX and the new RCVR mode, allow you to record the sound, even ambient, according to your preferences. There MIC mode captures audio from the microphone transmitter only, then only the subject audio. There RCVR mode it only captures audio from the internal microphone on the receiver, so that the operator can record his own voice. There MIX modeInstead, it acquires audio from both the transmitter and the receiver, a useful option for recording both the subject’s and the operator’s audio. The ECM-W2BT microphone supports stereo and audio output allows you to connect a 3.5mm stereo mini-jack for stereo sound capture. So you can use it, for example, in conjunction with the ECM-LV1 compact stereo lavalier microphone, a discreet stereo microphone that is easy to clip onto your subject’s clothing and capable of recording sound with greater realism. And thanks to the 3.5mm audio output, the ECM-W2BT can also be used with devices not equipped with a Multi Interface Shoe. For particularly demanding recording situations, the ECM-W2BT wireless microphone integrates also an attenuator. You can select one of three attenuation levels, depending on the volume of the sound source, to record excessively loud sounds at a reduced volume or to amplify low sounds for louder sound.

The equipment of the ECM-W2BT model also includes one windproof cover, especially useful for reducing hiss when recording outdoors. For particularly long usage times, the Multi Interface Shoe power supply battery assist function allows you to use the receiver for up to 9 hours. From a practical point of view, the ECM-W2BT model has a LINK lamp, which indicates to the operator the status of the communication between microphone and receiver, and a POWER light, which allows you to easily check the remaining battery life. There is also a protective case for the connector of the multi-interface shoe, which can also be used to carry the receiver and microphone together, or as a microphone support, to position the microphone in a stable way when stationary, for example during interviews.

The ECM-LV1 stereo lavalier microphone combines high quality sound capture and a compact design, making it convenient to carry and use while shooting. There windproof cover supplied allows to reduce the hiss, while the 360 ° swivel clip it can be attached, for example, horizontally to a tie or vertically to a pocket, with the microphone attached at the same angle. The microphone is powered through its own connector.

Availability

The ECM-W2BT wireless microphone and ECM-LV1 compact stereo lavalier microphone will be available from April 2021, while both microphones can be purchased from authorized Sony dealers.
