Stadia closes and a Red Dead Redemption 2 player loses 6 thousand hours of progress

The great news of the videogame world these days is one: Stadia, Google’s cloud gaming platform, closes permanently. The announcement has brought not a little discontent among video game fans, especially those who have invested a lot of time in the progress of the games on the platform. A Red Dead Redemption 2 enthusiast, for example, laments the loss of nearly 6000 hours of gameplay.

After the news of Stadia’s closure, Google reassured players that they would continued to have access to the game library and play on the service until January 18, 2023, with the refund of all games purchased through the service. Despite this, however, users are destined to lose all the progress accumulated starting from the day after the final closure of January.

Red Dead Redemption 2 on Stadia: a user begs Rockstar

A tweet from a YouTuber called ItsColourTV. The user shared a screenshot showing 5,907 hours of gameplay at Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2 on Google Stadia. This is well 246 days of play. “You can’t understand how pissed off I am,” the player wrote on Twitter.

In a subsequent tweet the YouTuber begged Rockstar Games by writing: “please let us transfer the character for once, I beg you.” Following numerous illicit trading operations of profiles for GTA and RDR, Rockstar Games has in fact implemented a strict regulation, which prevents the transfer of characters between different profiles.

Rockstar has not responded to the tweet at the moment, but the post is going viral on social media, to the point that several players and YouTubers have joined ItsColourTV’s appeal. In the meantime, other software houses, such as Bungie and Ubisoft, are working to allow the transfer of the progress of their games to other platforms.
