It’s all Italian The Good Mothers, the new series that is about to land on the Disney + platform. It is a strong story, which focuses on world of the ‘Ndrangheta, from the point of view of the women who bravely fought against it. The series is based on the bestselling book of the same name by Alex Perryalready awarded by the Foreign Press Association.

The Good Mothers was nominated for 73rd Berlin International Film Festivalin the section “Berlinale Series Award”. This is a new award, established this year, to celebrate the best series as well as films.

Trama di The Good Mothers

The series tells of a young prosecutor, Anna Colace, determined to strike the ‘Ndrangheta from within, stirring the consciences of women, mothers and wives of bosses, forced to live in a criminal context. Anna’s struggle begins with the disappearance of Lea Garofalo, after she had denounced her husband Carlo, in an attempt to change her life.

The plot of The Good Mothers takes up some real events of some women forced to live in the cruel environment of the ‘Ndrangheta. Theirs is a difficult existence, which they decide to break when they realize they have to destroy the criminal organization from within, starting to collaborate with the judiciary. It will be the beginning of a tough battle, against their own families, to get out of that tunnel of crime and ferocity they’ve always witnessed, saving themselves and their children.

He cast

Many leading actresses on the Italian scene took part in the series. Barbara Chichiarelli will be the prosecutor Anna Colace, while Micaela Ramazzotti will play the role of Lea Garofalo. Gaia Girace will be Denise Cosco and Valentina Belle will play Giuseppina Pesce. Also in the cast Francis Colella as Carlo Cosco, Simona Distefano in the role of Concetta Cacciola e Andrew Dodero in Carmen’s.

The adaptation is by Stephen Butchard. The series is directed by Julian Jarrold ed Eliza Amoruso and produced by House Productions e Wildside. Juliette Howell, Tessa Ross, Harriett Spencer (House Productions), Mario Gianani and Lorenzo Gangarossa (Wildside) are the executive producers.
