Weekly Shonen Jump this week presents the peculiar The Ichinose Family’s Deadly Sins, the new manga by the author Taizan 5, already acclaimed for Takopii no Genzai

Losing your memory after an accident is a cliché of fiction. It’s what happens to Tsubasa Ichinosea middle school boy who can only remember his name thanks to his identity card.

But his case is more unique than you might imagine: in fact, his entire family, including parents, sister and grandparents, were with him in the car that overturned during a holiday in Okinawa. And everyone, without exception, suffers from amnesia.

The Ichinose therefore have to rediscover their everyday family life starting from scratch, with only the traditional family model that common sense suggests as a starting point.

But, upon returning home, some bizarre “details” seem to suggest that Tsubasa’s is not a traditional family at all, and perhaps not even a happy one.

Who is Taizan 5 and what to expect from The Ichinose Family’s Deadly Sins

Shonen Jump introduces a new manga focused on mystery, perhaps with the idea of ​​filling the void left by Super Smartphone. In this case, however, the mystery has an introspective bent, as is to be expected of the author Taizan 5.

Taizan 5 has been in business for a few years, but has already made headlines with its first work, Takopii no Genzaipublished in 2021 in the digital magazine Shonen Jump+. Manga that tells of a benevolent alien who is looking for a way to make the inhabitants of the earth happy, it had an unexpected success, arriving first in the sales charts.

The author, however, adamant in carrying out and finishing the work on his own terms, closed the manga after only two volumes. Now, Shueisha has given Taizan 5 a chance to publish in the flagship magazine.

The Ichinose Family’s Deadly Sins in itself arouses conflicting feelings. In fact, the intent of the work to explore the meaning of the concept of family is clear, but, from a purely practical point of view, the premise puts a strain on the suspension of disbelief. Furthermore, the amnesiac characters themselves do not have the tractive force that attracts readers. The drawings are goodclassic but with the right degree of personality.

It therefore seems that the manga will take a totally philosophical direction, with less attention to the concrete part of the narrative. This would, after all, be in line with the previous work of Taizan 5. The title is therefore attractive to those interested in this concept, the family and its role in society. But, if it turns out to be exceptional, it could be a work for everyone.
