The Opel Manta of the future will be electric

When the Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD is was presented for the first time it was just a prototype, but a few months ago the German brand confirmed that the production model will be launched in the middle of the decade. To spice up the wait, the reborn Manta has already been shown live.

Opel has unveiled it together with the sixth generation Opel Astra and at the moment this single model produced anticipates with great attention to detail what the production version will look like, even if some features will change.

Overall, it’s easy to spot a silhouette very similar to the model of the 70s, with a long snout, a sloping roof in coupe style and proportions that reveal its extremely sporty and snappy look. Details such as i slightly widened wheel arches or the format of the front gives it a nice presence, although it is other elements that focus most of the attention.

The front known as Opel Viewfinder, which combines the grille and the headlights, already seen in other models of the brand, changes radically, proposing itself now as a backlit screen, a feature that however (perhaps) will be lost in the road model.

The cockpit is likely to reach production intact as it was unveiled. In fact, it mounts sports seats similar to those used in the Opel Adam S, a simple three-spoke steering wheel that will most likely incorporate fully digital controls and dashboard and center screen.

The Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD that will arrive on the roads should also be equipped with the same powertrain 100% electric, with a 147 hp engine and 255 Nm of torque fitted to this preview version. Surely it is astonishing that the electric motor is associated with a gearbox manual four-speed. The German company did not motivate this choice and if there are advantages, but at least we know that the Opel Mantra GSe ElektroMOD will arrive at a top speed of 150 km / h.

The battery that I will power this engine has contained dimensions and weight (the car reaches 1,137 kilos), with a capacity of 31 kWh, which allows you to travel approx 200 kilometers (or more if you don’t put too much pressure on the accelerator) before having to reload it again.
