Twitch: huge leak with streamer earnings and gaming platform

In the last few hours, a huge leak of data belonging to Twitch has taken place, divulging streamer earnings and sensitive user data

The streaming platform in question has often been malvista by gamers, who with the additions of new categories increasingly misleading consider it a place now a superfluous place as regards the genuine sharing of content aimed at gaming, and for this reason it has become subject of criticism for some time now. From the news of the past few hours, it seems that someone has decided to take matters into your own hands, thus releasing a leak of proportions never seen online, putting the security of the entire Twitch site and its users at risk.

The Twitch Leak: Earnings, New Platform, and Poor Cybersecurity

An anonymous hacker is the one who would have acquired and subsequently disclosed on 4chan 125GB di torrent, containing the most sensitive information belonging to Twitch, streamers and users. The purpose behind this would be to make the world of streaming in gaming more competitive and to create clutter, as it considers the Twitch community a “Toxic and disgusting toilet”. Among the various data, there are also the resource code owned by Amazon, any property belonging to Twitch such as CurseForge, password encrypted and payment info of subscribers to the platform, earnings of each streamer through the donations received in live shows.

In addition, what would be one was discovered within the codes in the leak similar store to Steam and its competitor created by Amazon, which is codenamed Vapor and would integrate the streaming functions already present on Twitch, as well as specific support for popular games such as Fortnite and PUBG. There would also be a Unity code that would indicate an exclusive game, titled Vapeworld. And with this game, Vapor does not seem to be inspired only by the Valve platform: in fact, some assets have been detected that could bring to mind something similar to PlayStation Home, assuming a similarity with VR chat.

Although the Twitch leak may not affect too much the lives of those who did not visit the site often, and for those who have no particular interest in looking inside the streamers’ portfolios, those who could really be negatively affected are precisely the latter, since now that the earnings have been released, it would be harder for them to negotiate future contracts with brands. Meanwhile, various cybersecurity experts have confirmed that there are also in the leak internal server data Twitch, normally only accessible by employees who work for the site.

To address this flaw in the Twitch system, we recommend that you change your Twitch account password for security and activate two-factor control.
