Twitter experiments with the feature to remove mentions

Don’t @ me!“Has become a widely used phrase on Twitter, to avoid being mentioned in conversations you don’t want to take part in. But society is experimenting with a way to make it possible to remove oneself from the conversation with simplicity. Indeed Twitter would be working on the function “Unmentioning“, Which allows you to remove the mentionsi, the tags using @ and the username of whoever you want to call into question.

Twitter experiments with a feature to remove mentions

In a recent tweet from the official account, Twitter asks: “How to say ‘Don’t @ me’ without saying ‘Don’t @ me’?”. The company explains it’s star experimenting with the “Unmentioning“,” A way to help protect your peace and remove you from conversations. ”

A function to avoid receiving a lot of mentions (perhaps with insults or comments on what you have written or published). That “some users” may already test in the web version of the social network.

As seen in the video posted by Twitter, you can click on the three dots of the options and select Leave this conversation. By selecting the function, you will find an explanation of what happens. The tag from your name, blocking the possibility of mentioning you in the future within that conversation. And especially, block notifications for that speech.

As early as February, some insiders had found references to this function in the social code, in particular Jane Manchun Wong had tweeted an exclusive screenshot of the feature.

The choice of leaving a conversation that is becoming hostile or just plain boring is an addition that many users will appreciate. It doesn’t block other users from talking (even badly) about you but it prevents them from dragging you into a conversation you don’t want to have. Something that anyone who has been harassed on the platform will no doubt appreciate. Especially because you can get out of it without blatant actions like leaving Twittera choice made by some celebrities in the past because they were harassed by negative mentions.
