Politics is preparing to return to Twitter ads, after being banned in 2019. Apparently, however, the management Elon Musk it will backtrack on this issue as well, as the company clearly needs to capitalize after the platform’s recent financial woes.
The Verge reports that Twitter will expand political advertising as early as the next few weeks. A maneuver that follows a sort of boycott of the main communication agencies, which have massively advised against advertising investments on the platform after the controversial maneuvers of Elon Musk.
The return of political ads could have devastating effects on the platform, especially in view of the upcoming ones US presidential election 2024. A controversial maneuver that follows the permanent reinstatement of many previously banned accounts (such as that of Donald Trump).
Twitter promises that the new advertising guidelines will be “aligned with the advertising policies of TV and other media”. The company promises that all ads will be evaluated and managed “in the interest of the users”. No further details have been revealed at this time. It’s also unclear exactly how Twitter will handle ads ahead of the sensitive 2024 US election.
