The witch hunt relives in Two Sisters, a horror short film written and directed by Diego Carli, which tells about real events that took place about four hundred years ago in the area of Lessini Mountains of Verona. Two sisters made its debut during the Giallo Berico festival in Ponte di Barbarano, in the province of Vicenza, and is now ready to experience its own path between festivals inside and outside Italy: let’s find out everything there is to know about the film.

Two sisters: discovering the horror of superstition

Two sisters is the story of two sisters, as the title suggests, they are accused of witchcraft. The two are linked by a very close love relationship, but find themselves having to make a dramatic choice when, chased by five men, they find themselves running away into the woods.

The story comes to life near 15th century Verona, when the city was under the dominion of the Most Serene Republic of Venice. Diego Carli engages in the analysis of the popular mentality in the period of maximum expansion of the witchcraft trials, when beliefs and superstition dominated everyday life. The obsession with “evil” is analyzed with a deep psychological groove, up to the reasons why the fear of witches was so widespread at the time and why these women were considered responsible for every disaster.

To make Two Sisters, the production drew on important historical sources to make the story as accurate as possible. In addition to texts focused on witchcraft trials in Tyrol and Friuli, the famous And the Devils by Ken Russel and other feature films focusing on witchcraft such as The witch by Benjamin Christensen.
