UK sales figures, results for video games as of 02/05/21

The month of April ends with the triumph of New Pokémon Snap on Returnal: here are the sales figures for video games from the United Kingdom

Also for this week we have new ones sales data from the United Kingdom, and between video games best sellers we have New Pokémon Snap to dominate. The Nintendo Switch title has sold four times as much as its predecessor, which debuted in ninth place in September 2000. Although the original game benefited from the full Pokémania, it was released for Nintendo 64, which among the British struggled to depopulate (just one million and a half of N64, while PS1 placed five million and four hundred thousand consoles). The status of a cult game has made its following a real bomb, thanks to the greater success of the new console that hosts it.

Compared to the previous spinoff, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX last March, New Pokémon Snap sales figures are even more encouraging, with the number of video games sold exceeding it by two and a half times. This is the most successful launch since Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury e Monster Hunter Rise. The other launch of the week just ended, Returnal, must therefore be satisfied with a second place. Sony’s roguelike is among the first major exclusives of relevance for the platform, and therefore has enjoyed excellent reviews. Sales, however, do not keep pace with other exclusives.

There are factors to consider for this: the few stocks, the young age of the console (and therefore the catchment area) and the price of the title. Also, consider the competition from the next big thing, Resident Evil: Village (next week). The first place last week, Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139, is instead found twenty-second after a tumble of 78% in sales. It was therefore an excellent week for the physical market, to which we refer as always, with over one hundred and eighty thousand games sold. Terminator Resistance Enhanced, for PS5, debuted in 37th place. We provide you with the detailed data for the increases in our table.
