Vodafone expands its partnership with Google in Europe

Vodafone wants to expand its European collaboration with Google in mobile messaging services, Pixel devices and Vodafone’s TV platform.

The agreement between the two multinationals will allow Vodafone customers to enjoy new and exciting services messaging experiences thanks to the adoption of Google Jibe Cloud to feed the use of Rich Communications Services by Vodafone.

The deal will also introduce the telephone Pixel 7 to Vodafone customers and will develop Vodafone functionality for other Pixel categories. Android TV will be adopted as the platform of choice for Vodafone’s television offering, while Google will further leverage the power of Vodafone’s 5G and ultra-fast fiber optic networks.

“Google and Vodafone are collaborating to bring users modern messaging with RCS, an immersive interactive TV experience and exciting new Android smartphones,” he said. Hiroshi Lockheimer, Senior Vice President of Platforms and Ecosystems at Google. “We value the partnership with Vodafone and are thrilled to delight our millions of joint customers across Europe.”

Aldo BisioChief Commercial Officer of Vodafone Group, therefore added: “Further expanding our excellent relationship with Google will allow us to leverage their technological innovation to provide our consumer and business customers with new immersive experiences based on best-in-class services , all of which will be underpinned by our 5G and Gigafast broadband networks.”

A summary of this strategic collaboration

Overall, the expansion of the partnership between Vodafone and Google will involve three strategic areas:

  • Messaging: Google Messages, powered by Google’s Jibe Cloud, will become the default messaging app on all Android devices sold through Vodafone carriers. Vodafone users will benefit from the Rich Communication Services (RCS) standard, which works on all Android smartphones, support for high-quality photos and videos, read receipts, advanced group messaging and encryption for one-to-one chats,
  • Pixel devices: Vodafone plans to expand the availability of Pixel devices to other markets in 2023. Vodafone mobile customers will be able to use the new Pixel 7, Pixel Watch and Pixel Buds, with Vodafone’s award-winning 5G coverage. Vodafone and Google will also jointly improve the experience of other devices through the Vodafone mobile network and the OneNumber service.
  • Vodafone TV: Android TV will be the preferred platform for Vodafone TV services. Customers will still be able to access the widest range of entertainment through VTV and enjoy thousands of apps and games available on Google Play.
