WhatsApp: all the features under test that will be available soon

WhatsApp would be implementing some news related to privacy, come “My contacts except …” which allows users to specifically check who can see their information on WhatsApp. The app would also be releasing a new interface for contact information and group information only to specific Android beta testers, to gather feedback and perhaps make it available on a large scale soon.

What’s new for WhatsApp: the features being tested

The option “My contacts except …” is introduced with the beta update of WhatsApp for Android 2.21.23.14, according to WABetaInfo. This feature allows users to choose who can see your information such as the famous “Last Access”, your profile photo and your WhatsApp information. This will be available as a fourth option along with “Everyone”, “My contacts” and “None” in the app settings menu, under the heading “Privacy”.

Users simply select the contacts they do not wish to share information with from the “My contacts except …” option. All other contacts will continue to be able to view all information as before. However, if a user disables their Last login for specific contacts, they will not be able to see the last login of the disabled person. However, this rule does not apply to profile information and photo.

According to another report from WABetaInfo, the WhatsApp beta update 2.21.23.13 for Android offers a number of other new features for beta testers. The first is the release of one new interface for contact information and users may start seeing the new interface for group information as well.

The app tests different durations for Ephemeral Messages

Furthermore, as Gadgets360 reports, again for Android beta users, the function Ephemeral Messages now lets choose between 24 hours, seven days and 90 days of ephemeral duration. The change was previously available for beta testers on iOS and is now available for Android testers. Introduced by the app last year, the feature offered the ability to automatically make a particular message disappear after seven days. The update now allows the user to choose the duration before the message actually disappears.

The latest update also brings changes to the multi-device functionality. WABetaInfo tweeted that with the latest beta update to the multi-device functionality, WhatsApp will not send notifications about changes to the security code when the list of connected devices is changed. Security codes are used to verify that the calls and messages a user sends to that chat are end-to-end encrypted.
