Will the iPhone 14 be SIM-free? Yes, according to a rumor

Apple is preparing to abandon physical SIMs, given that the next iPhone of the partner may lack the slot to insert the card of your telephone operator. In its place there will be room for one or two eSims that can be completely programmed by the user from a special terminal. Let’s take a look at everything we know so far about the alleged iPhone 14 without SIM.

Apple: the iPhone without a SIM is coming?

This choice by Apple comes without too many surprises, given that the virtual SIM was introduced by the company already in 2018, with the models iPhone Xs e Xs Max. The same option is also available on Android, while among the operators in Italy there is no lack of companies that support it, such as Wind, Vodafone and Tim. In short, the time seems ripe for a complete transition.

According to what emerged from the rumors, to opt for the YES completely digital it shouldn’t have been the iPhones 14, but rather the iPhone 15, which should arrive on the market in the course of 2023. However, the technology giant seems to have opted for an abrupt change of plans, at least according to what MacRumors explained, which will make the iPhone 14 the first smartphones without SIM.

These corridors rumors would like Apple currently engaged in contacting the major American operators, in order to prepare them for the debut of the smartphone without a slot dedicated to the physical card. Taking this information as valid, this feature will begin rolling out in mid-2022 to prepare users for the transition.

How will the transition take place?

At the moment, given that it is a mere rumor, it is not clear how Apple intends to manage a possible total transition to digital SIM. The Cupertino company could in fact start by offering both options, and then arrive at digital only only at a later time.

Similarly, Apple could opt to market these smartphones only in the United States, and then move on to global distribution at a later date. In short, there are still many variables at stake and uncertainties regarding an operation of this kind, but if it turns out to be true then iPhone 14 it would appear as a transition model.

On the other hand, for the moment the technology that allows operators to work on a digital SIM is not yet widespread and for some countries it could be a big problem to have the next iPhone model equipped exclusively with a digital SIM. A striking example of this is Iliad, which is spreading more and more and does not have this kind of support.
