Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) ha legal action started today against the administrators of more than 10,000 Facebook groups attempting to orchestrate fake Amazon reviews in exchange for money or free products. These groups were created to recruit people willing to post misleading reviews on Amazon stores for reward. This in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Japan.

he has declared Dharmesh Mehta, Amazon’s Vice President of Selling Partner Services. Who then added:

Proactive legal action against attackers is one of the many ways we protect customers by identifying them as responsible for illegal activities.

The scammers behind these groups are demanding fake reviews for hundreds of products sold on Amazon, such as car stereos and camera tripods. One of the groups identified in the case is “Amazon Product Review“, Which had over 43,000 members. Until, at the request of Amazon, Meta eliminated the group earlier this year. Amazon’s investigations revealed that group admins attempted to hide their activity and evade Facebook’s detection, in part by obfuscating letters in problematic sentences.

Amazon against fake reviews

Amazon strictly prohibits fake reviews and employs more than 12,000 people worldwide dedicated to protecting brand customers and sales partners. And again, the store from counterfeiting, fraud and other forms of abuse, including fake reviews. Amazon’s Qualified Investigators use industry-leading tools to spot and block fake reviews. Therefore, Amazon has proactively blocked over 200 million suspected fake reviews in 2020 alone.

The results in the last year

The legal action taken today is the most recent step Amazon has taken to stop scammers attempting to post fake reviews on Amazon stores. Over the past year, Amazon’s lawsuit has shut down several major review brokers who have targeted customers in the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain.

However, the harmful activity of “fake reviews brokerage”Remains a problem for the whole sector and civil litigation is only one step. Permanently eliminating fake reviews in the retail, travel and other industries will require greater public-private collaboration, including affected companies, social media sites and law enforcement, all of which are committed to the goal of greater consumer protection. Amazon is ready to continue working with all stakeholders to achieve this common goal.
