Apple: M2 chips will arrive in 2022, M2 Pro in 2023

According to a new report from the Taiwanese Commercial Times, Apple plans to update its Apple silicon chips every 18 months, similar to the annual iPhone and Apple Watch update cycle with M2 arriving in 2022 and M2 Pro in 2023. The report , which largely echoes other previously reported information, explained that several industry sources have confirmed an 18-month update cycle for Apple’s silicon chips.

Apple: the M2 chip is on its way

The report states that the next generation of Apple silicon chips, M2, will be launched in the second half of 2022 and is codenamed Staten. The “‌M2‌ Pro” and “‌M2‌ Max” chips are expected to be launched in the first half of 2023 instead. An automatic translation of the report reads:

Before Apple switched to its proprietary chips, the company always had to rely on Intel to innovate and produce new chips. Intel’s reputation and ability to create new processors were key factors in the Cupertino company’s assembly line.

Now, however, Apple has decided to go on its own and with this greater freedom it seems to intend to expand Mac updates, which is understandable and which reflects the consolidated habits of users.
