Our review of Lacci’s Blu-ray directed by Daniele Luchetti with Alba Rohrwacher and Luigi Lo Cascio. Distributed in home video by Eagle Pictures, it was the opening film in Venice 77, based on the novel by Domenico Starnone, it was able to excite audiences and international critics.
Presented out of competition at the 77th Venice International Film Festival and based on the novel by Starnone, a novel that was included in the list of the 100 best books of 2017 edited by the New York Times. We had proposed the review after a first viewing in Venice 77.
Aldo and Vanda are a normal couple, in the early 80s in Naples. They got married very young taken by that carefree and probably naive falling in love. Thirty years later they are still married but something changed in their marriage when Aldo cheated on his wife with a young student from Rome. He leaves the family convinced that he has found happiness away from the daily routine. Pain and love merge and confuse, the family is destroyed, shattered but somehow at a certain point things seem to rebuild themselves, unfortunately it is only appearance.
Lacci is a very well structured drama because it rests its script on a novel of the highest level. The interpreters are among the best on the Italian scene: Laura Morante, Silvio Orlando, Giovanna Mezzogiorno, Adriano Giannini and Linda Caridi. The Blu-ray makes the video quality extremely enjoyable, on a cinematic level. Being shot digitally, the images are all of very high quality, the risk was that in scenes with heavily loaded filters the level would be lost but this is not the case. To report the excellent quality of compression that allows even in long shots to have no grain or blur in the outlines and less in focus details.
Audio has a codifica 5.1 DTS HD Master, which makes it free of imperfections even in the balance. On the side of the extra contents, however, despite the quality, they are a bit ‘few. A Backstage of about 11 minutes and 3 minutes of deleted scenes, the latter extremely interesting.
The Blu-ray of Lacci is a really well made product which, however, does not add much to the cinematic vision, the lack of substantial extra content is a defect not to be underestimated, but the video and audio quality are really very high. For those who have enjoyed it on the big screen and for those who have not yet had the opportunity to see it, it is certainly an alternative to consider.
