Facebook Portal will prevent children from watching unsupervised content

Facebook announced that a new update on devices Portal. The new update, coming in at December, will prevent the little ones from watching unsupervised content. It will also make it possible deactivate the Watch Together feature during home calls. Let’s find out all the details of the future update together.

A new update for Facebook Portal

Watch Together allows you to watch shows, music videos or funny clips with distant friends or family members. The user chooses a video from the Facebook selection and the latter will be presented simultaneously on the user’s and his friend’s Portal device.

Watch Together is a great way to watch something together. However it is not ideal for parents who want to keep their children away from Internet videos. When a Portal device is in mode Home, everyone in the house has access to it, including children.

The Watch Together feature remains hidden in home mode but it reappears during calls. As BuzzFeed News noted, this can be dangerous as kids can grab the device, initiate a call, and start watching videos with others.

At the moment, there is no way to disable Watch Together during home mode calls – probably leaving some parents frustrated – but that’s about to change. In response to the BuzzFeed News report, Andrew Bosworth, the vice president of Facebook Reality Labs, revealed that Facebook is working on a solution.
