The first Italian edition of the Red Bull Solo Q, the 1 on 1 tournament of League of Legends organized by Red Bull, ended Sunday 17 October with the victory of Filippo “Sandalo” Lakes of the Esport Empire team. The new Italian champion made his way to the final by eliminating Ivan “DreamMaker” Chiodo and Mathias “Sloyr” Amorotti; on the other side of the bracket, the other finalist, Giacomo “Counter” Manconi has instead eliminated Andrea “FreemanGordon” Concetti and Davide “Crocomux” Gioan.
In the final, best of three games, Sandalo got the better of Counter by winning 2 to 1 in comeback: after being defeated in the first game, Sandalo decided to change his strategy and ban his opponent’s favorite champion in the following games; choice that turned out to be a winner and allowed the Esport Empire player to win both decisive clashes between his own Tristana and Counter’s Samira.
The victory in the Italian tournament, characterized by the exclusive 1vs1 formula compared to the more canonical 5vs5 team format, will give Sandalo the opportunity to represent Italy in the World Finals which will be held in December in Germany. In fact, our standard bearer will challenge the champions of the Red Bull Solo Q from all over the world to try to carve out a prominent place in the international export scene.
