Apple has officially shut down the popular app Dark Sky, acquired in March 2020 and since then incorporated into several pre-installed Weather features on iPhone, iPad and Mac. The app officially stopped working as of today and is no longer available in the App Store.
As mentioned, three years after the acquisition of Apple, Dark Sky is preparing to disappear from the official store. However, the built-in features will still be present as APIs for third-party apps, as well as Apple’s Weather app. Those who have an Apple device updated to iOS 16, iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura will still be able to use the Dark Sky features used in Weather. However, this is also only a temporary solution. Apple has indeed confirmed that will also shut down the Dark Sky API for third-party weather apps by March 31, 2023.
It will be replaced by a new proprietary API called WeatherKit.
Meanwhile, in another news, Apple is working hard on the new iPad Pros with 11.1-inch and 13-inch OLED screens. Apple currently has one 12.9-inch mini-LED iPad Pro and one 11-inch iPad Pro with LED display, updated in October 2022 with the innovative M2 chip. Consequently, considering that years can pass between one model and another, it would not be new to see the multinational publish one updated version by 2024.
