Instagram tests the Limits feature to curb targeted harassment

Instagram is testing one new function call Limits (Limits) which allows users to block their accounts e limit any potential interaction when they feel they are the target of harassment.

In introducing the tool Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, referred to the recent final of Euro 2020, which saw three black players from England face a lot of harassment after England lost to Italy in penalties. Let’s find out all the details together.

Limits, the new Instagram feature

“Racism and hate speech have no place on Instagram,” he said Mosseri in a video she shared on Thursday. “It’s not only honestly horrifying to see people treated like that but these behaviors destroy Instagram.”

In an effort to curb harassment on the platform, Mosseri said Instagram plans to try to reduce hate speech “as close to zero as possible.” However, knowing that it will likely be impossible to completely eradicate all forms of racism from the app, the company also plans to give people new tools that will allow them “To regain power”.

And this is where Limits, the new application function, comes in. Mosseri revealed: “We know that people sometimes experience temporary moments of real risk and pain. For this reason we need to give them the right tools to be able to protect themselves ”.

Ahead of a large rollout, Instagram is currently testing the new feature in some selected countries worldwide. Meanwhile, Mosseri has promised that the company will reveal in the coming months further information on how he plans to tackle racism and similar topics on Instagram.
