LEGO Star Wars Battles arrives on Apple Arcade but what is it?

LEGO Star Wars Battles it’s not the game you expect. In fact, video games dedicated to LEGO bricks are normally devoted to adventure and action, with an important dose of humor and TT Games at the helm. This time we have an important variation on the theme: LEGO Star Wars Battles it’s a tower defense. And there is more. It does not arrive on consoles or even on PC but it debuts tomorrow, September 25, on Apple Arcade.

LEGO Star Wars Battles: what to expect?

LEGO Star Wars Battles is – we said – a tower defense or, if you prefer, a strategic one. The game, born from the
collaboration between TT Games Brighton, Warner Bros. Games e Lucasfilm Games, it’s a PvP, that is, a title in which i
players face off against other real people in 1-on-1 battles.
No computers and no solo campaigns. After going through the tutorial you will be thrown into the fray
with characters, troops and vehicles which come from the Star Wars universe.

However, let’s proceed in small steps. How does it work?

First of all you will have your own deck, which is a series of cards that include different characters, troops and towers.
Know that they are not the same for everyone but, by playing and earning resources, you can unlock new cards to use
into battle, thus diversifying your deck and adapting it to your play style. The cards also contain
useful information such as stats, characteristics and characters, troops or towers they work best with.

But that’s not all. LEGO Star Wars Battles provides a division of the cards: we therefore have those related to Side
Clear
of the Force, led by Luke Skywalker, and those dedicated to the Dark side, led by Darth
Vader.
However, you will not be the one to select the deck. In the matchmaking phase, the Force Side with which you will face your opponent will be defined.
What you can choose instead will be the terrain on which to clash. There are indeed several planets available, including the most famous ones like Hoth, Endor and Naboo.

Once the game has started, you can finally take advantage of your deck. However, deploying troops is not immediate and free. Each card has an energy cost so you will have to wait until you have enough points to reinforce the troops. The ultimate goal? Defend the base or advance on the battlefield to conquer the territory of the opponents.

At the end of the fights you will get trophies even in case of defeat while the winner will take home precious resources that will then serve to expand and strengthen the army.

Attention to detail

So far we have covered the basic mechanics of the game but in reality LEGO Star Wars Battles is an interesting product also from a technical and artistic point of view.
The effects of light in real time, reflections, shadows and the light blowing of the wind embellish a title to which TT Games has really dedicated the utmost attention, investing time and resources.

This is also demonstrated by the care with which all the elements of the game have been studied, starting with the characters and their special abilities. In fact, the idea is to be loyal to the franchise – also because Star Wars fans do not forgive – and of offer something new and original at the same time, which can capture the attention of fans but also of casual players.

All this without requiring any expense from the user. In fact, there are no in-app purchases. Everything you find in the game and in the shop can be purchased with the resources present in the game.
But be careful: this does not mean that the game is free. Or rather, it is, but to be able to play with it starting tomorrow, September 25, you will need to have a subscription to Apple Arcade.
