Nikon and the collaboration with Marilyn Stafford FotoReportage Award

Nikon, for the third consecutive year, celebrates the talent of photographers and joins one of the most coveted photography awards in the world, the Marilyn Stafford FotoReportage Award 2021.

Nikon is once again collaborating with this prestigious photography award from FotoDocument, a non-profit company operating in the art world, this prestigious competition rewards photographers who document social, economic and environmental issues of which little is spoken.

The award is a recognition of female talent and the power of photography and was founded in 2017 by pioneering photojournalist Marilyn Stafford, who began her career as a photojournalist in the 1960s (then and still male dominated today). Stafford’s work documenting Algerian refugees in Tunisia was published in the famous front page of The Observer in 1958, bringing their situation to the attention of the world.

The prize of 2,000 pounds will allow a professional photographer to complete her documentary photographic project; at the same time, the competition provides photographers from around the world with a platform to promote their work in the field of photojournalism.

In 2020, Nicky Quamina-Woo was awarded the grant with the “As The Water Comes” project, a long and complex work on the effects of climate change in Senegal and the local solutions used to combat them.

Nikon’s sponsorship confirms its continued commitment to nurturing female talent in the photography industry and shedding light on some of the most pressing global issues, while highlighting how women are helping to address them through the power of their photography.

Providing photographers around the world with the equipment they need to tell their stories is at the heart of Nikon’s activities, which also supports those who are following in the footsteps of Marilyn Stafford herself. to guide real change in the world through inspiring images.

Applications for the 2021 edition are already open to photographers at any stage of their career and of any nationality who are working on documentary projects that show positive solutions to the world’s problems, both locally and globally, in order to contribute to a constructive photojournalism.

An international panel, composed among others by Andrea Bruce, world-famous photojournalist, co-owner of the NOOR photo agency and Nikon ambassador, Donna De Cesare, award-winning photojournalist and associate professor at the University of Texas, Nina Emett, director and founder of FotoDocument and documentary photographer, e Marilyn Stafford and her daughter Lina Clerke will evaluate the applications received by 5.00 pm on May 24th.
