As it turns out, while the display hardware is capable of reaching that peak, the software currently does prevents exceeding 700 nits.

In response, a spokesperson for Nothing sent a comment on the matter to GSAmarena. “The hardware is capable of reaching peak brightness up to 1,200 nits, but is currently limited by software to 700 nits,” he said.
