Google and Facebook would be monopolizing the digital advertising market. This is the point of view dover 200 newspapers Americans (mainly local distribution). These newspapers have launched a judicial initiative against the two American giants. The newspapers filed a lawsuit against Facebook and Google who are accused of violating antitrust rules, creating a real duopoly of the digital advertising market to the detriment of local newspapers.
To report the judicial initiative was Axios which highlighted how the project, initially carried out by a few American publishing companies, has collected a large number of adhesions with dozens and dozens of newspapers that have chosen to support the cause. After a long preparation, the various newspapers are now ready to battle for legal recognition of the dominant position of Facebook and Google.
In the words of Doug Reynolds, executive of HM Media, a company that owns several newspapers in West Virginia and promoter of the initiative, the preparation of the case has been going on for 3-4 years. The first lawsuits against the two American giants were presented at the beginning of the current year. The goal, explain the representatives of the newspapers, is establish a new system in which newspapers become competitive again.
