Take-Two completed the $ 12.7 billion acquisition of Zynga

Colossus buys colossus: Take-Two formalized the acquisition of Zynga in a $ 12.7 billion deal. The announcement comes in official form from both companies, thus bringing the entire Zynga catalog into the hands of the US publisher. We are talking about particularly popular games such as, for example, Farmville.

Why did Take-Two acquire Zynga?

Over the years Zynga has established itself as a software house particularly appreciated for its ability to evolve. It has in fact created and distributed browser games that have become very popular through social media (Facebook and MySpace above all). At the same time, the exploit of mobile gaming has led many companies, historically rooted in the world of video games for PC and consoles, to take an interest in this profitable market. Sensor Tower reports Activision’s Call of Duty: Mobile, launched in October 2019, recently surpassed $ 1.5 billion in total revenue. The same portal also reports that PUBG Mobile would have surpassed a staggering $ 7 billion in revenues since its launch.

With this move, Take-Two Interactive, which currently owns important videogame titles such as Grand Theft Auto, BioShock and Civilization, also enters the mobile game market, to make its catalog of games even more vast and varied.

In reality, rumors about the eligible acquisition had already been in the air since January, although it was only formalized in these hours. A few weeks later, on January 19, Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard for a record $ 68.8 billion. The following week, on January 31, Sony acquired Bungie (developer of Halo and Destiny) for $ 3.6 billion.
