The unmistakable name says it all: “selfdestruct0x000000000000000000000000000000000000dEaD” is a meta-degradable NFT launched by 2MuchTV. This self-destructs, eliminating any trace of itself, within a week. Therefore, it is better to hurry, because it will be exposed until 12 June at the gallery of designer Rossana Orlandi, at Via Matteo Bandello 14-16 20123, in Milan.
The work cannot be purchased, therefore no economic speculation is possible against it. It is in fact a digital and artistic experiment with a strong conceptual value. It is therefore not surprising that this comes from the creative agency 2MuchTV, which created it for the META_WASTE initiative. As the name suggests, this was created with the aim of raising awareness on the polluting effects of the metaverse, certainly among the hottest topics in the digital world. META_WASTE asks itself a clear question: “are we sure that digital does not have negative repercussions on the physical world?” and “could there be an abuse and misuse of digital, as it was for plastic?”
How 2MuchTV’s meta-sustainable NFT works
The company will create a smart-contract that will mount an NFT on the ETH (Ethereum) network. In this smart-contract a self-destruct function will be defined, which will delete its content making it permanently unusable. Before the destruction of the contract, however, the NFT will slowly die by lowering the “life” value defined in its erc-721 and subsequently sent to the ETH burn address (0x0000000000000000000000000000000000dEaD). The metadata of the NFT will instead be deleted from the IFPS node thanks to a dynamic script.
The “death” of the token will be told visually through the elaboration of an animated loop in pixel-art. This will happen in a loop for the duration of the event, but with each cycle more and more parts of this will be obscured (as if they were real dead pixels).
