Netflix just launched a new virtual reality video game called Eden Unearthed for free. The platform had already confirmed that it wants to start entering the gaming sector and this could be a move to start testing the waters. Netflix gaming it should arrive next year and integrate with the platform’s core offering.

The new game launched by Netflix is based on the original anime series of the Eden platform, but at the moment this is more or less all we know about the project, which appeared on theOculus Store App Lab. The anime is set on Earth a thousand years after the disappearance of humanity, in a city completely made up of intelligent robots called Eden 3.
The game seems to be a kind of sliding platform, in which the player controls a motorcycle and travels the world in search of apples and fuel, trying to maintain maximum speed. A gameplay not too dissimilar to that of many titles that can already be found in the Oculus stable
Netflix appears both as publisher and developer of the game, while the release date is currently set to April 21. App Lab apps aren’t indexed in the same way as Oculus Store titles, which means they can run relatively quietly if no one is given a direct link.
It is not clear why Netflix has decided to focus on a virtual reality title, given that it previously announced that it would be adding mainly mobile games to its service. Has the streaming giant partially changed its strategy?
To find out, we will have to wait for an official press release, also because at the moment very little is known about Netflix’s intentions regarding its gaming division.
