Since 1993, EA and FIFA have been almost synonymous. With its games, in fact, the company has created a successful franchise with the official brand of International Federation of Football Association. Now, however, the name of one of the most beloved games of all time looks set to change. What will the new name be? We still don’t know.
FIFA could change its name: the reveal of EA
On the occasion of the launch of FIFA 2022, which took place last October 1st, EA announced that the franchise could change its name soon. “Looking ahead, we are also exploring the idea of renaming our global soccer games EA SPORTS. This means that we are reviewing our naming rights agreement with FIFA, which is separate from all of our other official partnerships and licenses around the world of football. ” In the same press release, EA claims to have over 300 individually licensed partners, which involves over 17,000 athletes in over 700 teams in over 30 leagues around the world.
Producing video games is quite expensive. Especially if you add to this the management of an agreement with the Fédération Internationale de Football Association. After all, if the FIFA naming rights agreement has been changed, it seems inevitable that the name will be changed. Of course, the fact that a well-known game has to give up its name is not such a simple thing. For over twenty years, the most loved football game in the world has been FIFA. Are we sure that reviewing the collaboration will benefit EA? We will only find out in the future.
