GoPro: Here is a new battery and an update of the HERO10 Black

On this Wednesday, October 27, 2021, GoPro unveiled a new high performance battery for HERO10 and HERO9 Black cameras that significantly increases low performance temperatures and extends video recording times in all conditions. The Enduro battery will be available for purchase on GoPro.com from November 30, while more information is available here.

GoPro also announced a firmware update for the HERO10 Black that allows for longer video recording times and extends battery life to even camera owners with standard battery. The firmware update will be available by the end of October and owners of the HERO10 Black they will be able to update their cameras using the Quik app.

GoPro: the characteristics of the products

Battery

The Enduro battery will be available as a spare battery upgrade for $ 24.99 and features groundbreaking technology that dramatically improves the performance of the HERO10 and HERO9 Black cameras in cold temperatures (when playing snow sports, for example), significantly extending even recording times at more moderate temperatures.

With the HERO10 Black and a battery temperature of -10 ° C (note: this is the battery temperature, it can be even colder outside), the Enduro battery allows, on average, 56 minutes of 5.3K60 video, 50 minutes of 4K120 video, 76 minutes of 4K60 video, and 115 minutes of 1080p30 video recording.

The Enduro battery also significantly increases video recording time in moderate temperatures. For example, using the HERO10 Black during typical outdoor activities at a temperature of 25 ° C, the Enduro battery allows, on average, a total of 60 minutes of 5.3K60 video (a 28% improvement over the standard battery) , a total of 51 minutes of 4K120 video (a 40% improvement over the standard battery), a total of 71 minutes of 4K60 video (a 13% improvement over the standard battery) and a total of 120 minutes of 1080p30 video recording per charge.

The firmware update

The new HERO10 Black firmware update, scheduled for release in late October, introduces three “Video Performance Modes” that make it easier to maximize camera performance depending on your use case:

Maximum Video Performance – maximum resolution and frame rate for better image quality and slow-motion videos.

Extended Battery – optimal resolution and frame rate for longer video recording times and maximum battery life.

Tripod / Stationary Video – optimized for recording long video clips and high resolution frame rates and when the camera is still or without airflow to cool it down. GPS and HyperSmooth video stabilization are disabled in this mode.

The following points indicate what users can expect to achieve, on average, in Tripod / Stationary Video mode when recording a single continuous clip at a temperature of 25 ° C in static or airflow-free situations to cool the camera :

5.3K60 – 47% more autonomy than before for an average of 29 minutes of clips
5.3K30 – 11% more autonomy than before for an average of 44 minutes of clips
4K120 – 52% more autonomy than before for an average of 26 minutes of clip
4K60 – 154% more autonomy than before for an average of 63 minutes of clips
4K30 – 35% more autonomy than before for an average of 50 minutes of clips

A future firmware update will allow for even longer clips in 5.3K30 and 4K30. And if required for your specific use, 2.7K and 1080p will allow for even longer single video clip recording times than previously in Extended Battery or Maximum Video Performance mode.

The HERO10 Black firmware update will be available by the end of October and HERO10 Black owners will be able to update their cameras using the Quik app.
