After a forced pause, sales figures return for physical video games: here is the triumph of FIFA 22 in the latest British census
We inevitably had to allow ourselves a week off, but luckily the last ones arrived sales data for i video games. The census of the British body GfK, which as always makes our litmus test of the United Kingdom, was also carried out last week (for the previous one, as we will reiterate later), but this time GamesIndustry.biz did not report it. For this reason, this time, the column on the left of our final table will have to fill in the “holes” left by this lack. For the rest, let’s see how the trend was physical format over the Channel.
Christmas balls (and bombs)
To take the lead in these sales figures was FIFA 22, which for the last week before Christmas (ie last, since each ranking concerns the week just ended) wins the gold medal among the best-selling video games. The Electronic Arts stock saw a 75% increase from the previous week, which means it holds its spot at the top for the third week in a row. The second place, on the other hand, belongs to Call of Duty: Vanguard, which in turn saw a 43% increase from week to week. In other words, we didn’t miss out on who knows what changes.
Head-to-head with the Spider-Mobile – Sales figures for video games
Contributing to an unchanged podium in best-selling video games is the bronze medal for our sales figures. We allude to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which also enjoyed a 15% increase. To get close (and a lot) we have Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PS4 and PS5, with a gap of 200 copies (!) barely. Sony’s game received a 143% increase following the arrival of more PS5 units, just in time for Christmas. It was also (and deservedly) that benefited Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, who made it into the top 40 in eleventh place. Another contender would be suspicious to say the least …
There is an imposter among honest drivers – Sales figures for video games
Following Spider-Man we find the physical release of Among Us. The indie title of Innersloth, “child of the pandemic” like Animal Crossing: New Horizons (tenth), is in fact released in a non-digital version thanks to Maximum Games. 39% of sales were on Nintendo Switch, 24% on PS4, 20% on Xbox and 17% on PS5. The game was surprisingly capable of beating the other illustrious rookie of the week on its own ground, namely Grand Theft Auto The Trilogy: Definitive Edition. The game experienced a troubled launch with unflattering reviews (mea culpa).
“Massacred” is also the Master Chief – Sales figures for video games
The arrival of GTA in physical format has changed things quite little. For what it’s worth, the biggest sales were on PS4, while the remaining 33% was on Xbox (Nintendo Switch will arrive in early 2022). This week, the other previous big release (that of Halo Infinite) after a debut in fourth place lost 62% of sales and found himself twentieth. This data, as always, does not include the results of the digital or, in the case of the 343 Industries title, the members of Game Pass who benefit from it. Finally, it should also be mentioned that Halo Infinite’s multiplayer follows the free-to-play business model.

After a forced break like last week’s sales figures, it’s just a pleasure for us to open the week with our usual table for best-selling video games.
