According to what Amazon reported, Alexa, the company’s voice assistant tends to tire its users very quickly and generally is little used. These are the data that emerged from a research within the company, which showed that one in four customers stop using Alexa completely after only two weeks after the first use. The e-commerce company struggles to explain why.
Alexa is little used
It seems that for Amazon the growth of the devices of the family Echo is over, given that according to what reported by the Bloomberg editorial team, the company does not plan to record substantial increases in the sales of its smart speakers by 2022. For next year, in fact, Amazon expects a growth of 1.2%, probably an optimistic estimate, given the assumptions.
Data that is not surprising, on the other hand just think that an Amazon study showed that in 2020 one in four US houses had at least one device with Alexa. An element that might seem encouraging, were it not that most consumers just use these devices for play music, or to turn the light on and off.
The e-commerce company explained that Alexa would be able to perform much more complex functions as well, but users just don’t seem interested in using the assistant to its fullest potential. A consideration that seems at odds with the trends for the future, according to which in just 5 or 10 years from now we should switch to using assistants like Alexa to do much more than the few functions we use them for today.
Despite this, Alexa is still used very little for the functions that the division dedicated to its development continues to add every year, a situation that does not seem destined to change in the short term.
