Gianluigi Greco becomes the new President of the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence (AIxIA). Full Professor of Computer Science at the University of Calabria, he takes the place of Piero Puccianti that the Association wants to thank for the important work carried out in the four-year period 2018-2021.

The Italian association that studies the present and the future of AI appoints a new president. And also of the new members of the Board of Directors and the Board of Auditors. Professor Greco will use his experience in the field to continue the growth of the Association and face the constant changes in this exciting environment.
Since 2018 Greco is Director of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at theUniversity of Calabria. Here he led research in various fields of AI. From methods and techniques of representation of automatic reasoning on knowledge bases. Up to the definition of coordination and collaboration mechanisms in multi-agent systems.
Internationally recognized scholar, he received the recognition of EurAI Fellow, the most prestigious of those awarded by the European Association for Artificial Intelligence (EurAI). He also received a Kurt Goedel Research Prize Fellowship it’s a Marco Somalvico Award, conferred by AIxIA.
Furthermore, even outside the academic field, collaborate closely with various economic realities, participating in scientific boards and promoting startups.
The words of the new president
The new president declares: “I thank the Association for the trust that has been placed in me. And that spurs and motivates me to face the commitment of the coming months with enthusiasm. Artificial Intelligence has long since crossed the boundaries of scientific research, materializing into technologies and applications that are profoundly transforming our life and our social relationships. In this frenetic and sometimes convulsive revolution, it becomes increasingly important to raise awareness among citizens of the great opportunities and risks of these technologies. And, at the same time, promote theoretical and applied research on AI. That knows how to bring benefits to people and society, becoming an essential ingredient for a fully sustainable development model.
This is the challenge. But I am sure that the Association will be able to face it with enthusiasm and competence. Characterizing itself with increasing strength as a reference point in Italy on Artificial Intelligence. “
