With the purchase of Activision Blizzard from Microsoft there are many who are wondering if Call of Duty will become an exclusive Xbox and, according to an insider, it would be a prospect to be seriously considered, at least those of the mainline series.
Call of Duty could become Xbox exclusive
The term mainline is used to separate the main releases of Call of Duty from Call of Duty: Warzone, a free to play title that is likely to remain cross-platform. The last chapter of the saga, Vanguard, has shot to the top of the sales charts around the world, despite criticism of the campaign and gameplay, and in terms of sales it is undoubtedly one of the most successful titles of the 2021.
Now that Microsoft owns Activision Blizzard, and therefore has also acquired the rights to Call of Duty, many believe that the main games in the series will become Xbox exclusives. One of them is Jeff Grubb, an industry insider and VentureBeat reporter, who tweeted: “Warzone will remain cross-platform, but I think major Call of Duty games will become exclusive.”

Grubb, however, points out that the matter is very delicate, given that moving a franchise as popular as Call of Duty on a single ecosystem risks leaving many fans disappointed and dry-mouthed.
The other side of the coin is that you keep Warzone available on other consoles, but making the Call of Duty titles exclusive to Xbox and Game Pass could convince many players to switch to the Microsoft console, also given the unavailability of PlayStation 5.
