The portable console market has always been a sector looked upon with interest by some realities, Nintendo before all the others already starting with the Game Boy, but also Sony has tried several times to penetrate the sector, first with PlayStation Portable or later with PlayStation Vitawhich unfortunately did not achieve the desired success: now it seems that the apps of the ill-fated Sony console can be run by Nintendo Switch without the need for emulation.
PlayStation Vita games return to Nintendo Switch
It was the content creator who carried out all the necessary tests Modern Vintage Gamer together with the team of programmers led by Sergi ‘Sherpi’ Granell, who have come to the conclusion that, at least in theory, PlayStation Vita applications can also run on Nintendo Switch without any need for emulation, given the enormous similarity between the hardware architecture of the two consoles.
It is no coincidence that the first tests performed reveal one scenario promising. Having said that, the system designed by programmers, however, needs intermediate steps to be completed, given that at the moment it has not yet been possible to launch a Vita application on Switch in a “normal” way. In fact, the system currently only allows starting the software homebrew.
Precisely for this reason the team has not yet managed to natively run PlayStation Vita software on Nintendo Switch, even if the elements put in place so far suggest that the moment in which this will be possible is not so far away, given that the engineers are already working to circumvent this limitation. Beyond all, it is interesting to note how the two consoles are so similar in terms of hardware, so much so that they can be compatible with each other.
