Prepare for a significant change: MacBook and iPad will switch to OLED displays. LG is in fact working on the screens of these devices, with the new iPad Pro OLED expected for 2024 and the MacBook OLED expected instead for 2025.
To anticipate it is a report by The Elec, which explains how the Korean company is dealing with production of OLED displays (Gen 8.5) for future MacBooks, production started in December 2021. However, laptops will not be the only Cupertino products to have the “OLED treatment”. In fact, LG’s factory in Paju, South Korea, will also take care of the iPad panels, as well as having the task of increasing the production of OLED displays for iPhones.
To confirm how much he always thinks about it too a tweet from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, tweet in which Kuo states that the launch of the first MacBook OLED will depend on that of the OLED iPads. The dates then seem to coincide: we are talking about 2024 for the Apple tablet and 2025 for the notebook.
I think the release date of the OLED MacBook is mainly dependent on the schedule of iPad’s adoption of OLED. MacBook would use OLED in 2025 at the earliest if Apple could successfully release 12.9-inch & 11-inch OLED iPads in 2024.
